Camp Blog Post

On the 19th to the 21st of June we had our year 10 camp at Boyle river. Our journey to the mountains is indeed fun as we were able to see the wonderful views from the bus as we chat and have fun with my friends. My camp experience was okay as I get to experience a three-day camp on the mountains and learn a lot of things when it comes to teamwork and working in a group. I get to go hiking with my group and do a lot of fun and exciting activities that helped us and taught us a lot of new things that we can use to survive the wild. What challenged me during the camp is maintaining and getting along with some of the members, since I didn’t get to be in the group where my camp buddy is. But I learned to go with the flow and just have fun. My favorite part is the travel at the bus and eating times since those are the times where I can be comfortable and be around them. In the end I have enjoyed it a lot and had a really great time with all the people and everything around me.

Y10 Forces and Motion Assessment Task

Year 10 Forces and Motion Assessment Task – Wind Racers

Aim: The aim of this experiment is to see what makes a great land yacht by using materials that are able to let force and motion apply to the land yacht in order to move.

Equipment: The equipments that we used to build the yacht are:

  • base (wood with four wheels attached on both sides)
  • bamboo sticks
  • barbecue sticks
  • popsicle sticks
  • plastic bag
  • tin foil
  • cardboard
  • tape

Method: The process of how we made the land yacht:

  1. We cut the plastic bag into a triangular shape and taped a tin foil for design.
  2. We used the bamboo stick to attach the sail and the base together.
  3. We then cut the barbecue sticks and attached them into the bamboo to form a crossed arrow shape to attach our sail.
  4. Once we were done with the sail, we then moved on to our base. We made our base by using a black cardboard. and formed some sort of an arrow shape with curved designs facing the back of our yacht.
  5. We then cut and attached the popsicle sticks on the side of our base for design.

Results: Include distance/ time recordings, your speed calculation, and picture.

Distance travelled (m) Time taken (s) Speed calculation (ms-1)
                  5.75m          13.49s                   0.43ms-1

Discussion:

  • What are the forces acting on your wind racer?
  • – The forces that acted up on our wind racers are thrust/push because it used wind to make it move to a forward direction.
  • – The forces weight and support was also applied to the land yacht causing it to not move and stay at a certain position.

  • Are they balanced/ unbalanced?
  • – The forces are unbalanced since the force on the other side is stronger causing the land yacht to move to a certain direction.

  • What is net force and how does this relate to the forces acting on your wind racer?
  • – Net force is the sum of all the forces that are acting up on an object. This relates to our activity by seeing in which direction our land yacht will move according to the force that acts up on the wind racer. Greater force on the other side of the wind racer will make it move towards the opposite direction.

  • What are the strength of forces acting on it at different stages?
  • – In our experiment there are three stages that occurred during the movement of the land yacht.
  • Stage 1 (The starting point) – In this stage balanced force acted up on our wind racer because the forces from all direction are balanced causing no movement at all
  • Stage 2 (Land yacht movement) – On this stage unbalanced forces are displayed on the object. Force push was applied on the back of the land yacht causing it to move forward.
  • Stage 3 (Slowing down and stopping of the land yacht) – On this stage of the land yacht movement, forces are also applied. Friction was applied to the wheels of the yacht in order to slow it down causing it to stop moving.

  • How do the forces acting on the wind racer affect the motion of the wind racer at different points?
  • – If the force that occurred to the back of the wind racer is a push, then the land yacht will move forward
  • – If a drag force or friction from the wheels of the land yacht occurred, then it will slow down the yacht

  • Why do you think results may vary in the class?
  • – During this experiment, it is expected to get a variety of different results, as students in our class used different kinds of materials and techniques to build our wind racers. Different materials mean different air resistance, resulting in different speed and movement of the wind racers.

Conclusion:

  • How was your wind racer successful/unsuccessful and why?
  • – For me, I think that our wind racer is successful because it managed to travel a distance at a certain speed. Additionally, our wind racer did not fall apart, neither broke during the competition.

  • How could you improve it?
  • – We can improve our wind racer by attaching the bottom of our sail to the front of the base, in that way our wind racer can have more air resistance since the sail will make a curved effect that will help our wind racer to catch more air,m resulting to a faster and much more effective wind racer.

Hockey Reflection

Hockey reflection – Term 2

This week in PE we have been learning about hockey.

Hockey is played with 11 players on each team on the field at one time..

The field is 55 m wide x 91.4 m in length.

The equipment needed are hockey stick and a flat ball

Here are some of the rules:

  1. Players can only hit the ball with the flat side of their stick.

  1. Players other than the goal keeper cannot use any part of their bodies to control the ball during the game.

  1. The ball cannot be picked up.

  1. Wear protective gears.

  1. Do not be violent towards other players.

One thing I want to improve is my hockey skills so I can play better next time.

One activity I enjoy is dribbling the flat ball across the field.

I enjoy practicing skills with Rhian because we have good coordination and teamwork.

I always/sometimes/hardly ever/never bring my PE gear to school.

Penalty corner is when the flat ball reaches; but goes out the goal. During a penalty corner the defending team receives a penalty.

Guitar Blogpost

  • In today’s lesson in music class I have learned how to play different chords in the guitar. We also tackled about the different parts of the instrument.

  • A chord is where you put your fingers when playing the guitar. Different chords produce different sounds and notes.

  • To read a chord diagram you need to learn where to put your finger in order to play. The vertical  lines mean the frets of the guitar; while the numbers indicates what fingers you will use in playing.

Egg Parachute Experiment – Legend

Aim:

  • The reason behind this egg parachute experiment is to show the relationship between time and mass. This experiment is also done to see the best materials needed to make a good parachute that can support and protect an egg from breaking.

Research:

Method:

  • We gathered all our needed materials for our project (Plastic bag, yarn, cardboard box, tape, cotton balls, etc.)
  • We rolled the thin cardboard to make a small tube
  • We made a base to support the egg from falling
  • We get our yarn and tied it to the plastic bag
  • We connected the base and canopy together to complete the parachute

Results:

  • The egg did break. It took an estimated time of 2 seconds for the parachute to drop on the floor.

Discussions:

  • Some of the parachutes fell faster than the others because of the weight of their base. Some bases are heavier causing the parachutes to drop faster. One other reason is the size of the canopy, the size of the canopy affects the air resistance of the parachute.

Conclusion:

  • Based on the results of our parachute, the improvements we can make to make it work next time is to change the canopy to a lightweight material with a wider opening for greater air resistance causing it to drop slower and protecting the egg from breaking. We can also change the base by making it lighter but sturdy enough to support the egg inside by using lightweight materials.

Boycott Poster

Apartheid Poster - Etsy

This poster tells us the battle between the white and black people. The upper text is about the black people fighting for the end of Apartheid, while the bottom text explains the white people refusing to purchase the south african products.

This poster explains that the racist acts of the white people are affecting both race’s country’s economies because the products that went to waste because of the boycott. The solution of the black people is to end the Apartheid to solve both race’s problems.

This poster very informative indeed as it tells us the history of Apartheid and Boycott and how it affected the world, I can say that this issue is very important to discuss about as it was a part of our history that includes racial acts.

In conclusion studying the history of Apartheid and Boycott is very important for us students as it will help us in our studies about racism and descrimination.

Touch Rugby Reflection

Touch rugby reflection – Term 2

This term in PE we have been learning about Touch Rugby.

Touch Rugby is played with six players maximum and four players minimum on each team.

The field is 70m wide x 100m in length.

The equipment needed is a rugby ball

Here are some of the rules:

  1. You can’t pass the ball forward

  1. Only 6 touches are allowed.

  1. If the ball is catched by the opposing team and if it is dropped to the ground the ball will be turned over to the opposite team.

  1. The dummy can’t run with the ball.

  1. You must yell “touch” when you touch a person holding the ball in order to inform the referee.

One thing I improved at was my passing while running with the ball.

One thing I enjoyed was the teamwork we displayed when we were playing touch rugby.

I could keep working on making strategies in order to pass the ball to my teammates without getting touched.

I enjoyed playing on the same team as Rhian because we have the capability to understand each other’s signals while playing the game.

I “ALWAYS”/sometimes/hardly ever/never brought my PE gear to school

Out of 10, I would give myself a 10 for effort because I always participate in PE class and I never miss the class activities unless I have justified excuses of not participating.

Wananga Challenge

Name ( include group members ) Rhianna Austria
Challenge idea: ( what is it you would like to upskill or learn ) Write short poems compressed all in one book
What resources or space do you need to do this? I don’t really need any materials except for my chromebook and my printer at home
What would you like to achieve by the end of the term? By the end of the term I would like to have my book (digital book can do too) finished
What are you going to work on first? Firstly I would work on the topics of the poems and write the poems then put them all together.

MUSICAL THEATRE

MUSICAL THEATER  PART ONE

  • Musical Theater –  Musical theater is one example of theatrical performance that includes

music, spoken dialogue, acting and dance. Performers interact with

the audiences by songs, movements and technical aspects.

EXAMPLES OF MUSICAL THEATER

  • Book Musical – A book musical is a performance that tells a specific narrative, the show

portrays the story of a book, performed by actors on the stage.

  • Revue – A revue is a light theatrical performance that includes, songs, dances and

              dialogue about a certain topic.

  • Concept Musical – A concept musical is a musical art that embodies the theme of a

                              narrative plot.

  • Jukebox Musical – Jukebox musical is a film or a stage performance that includes the

most popular songs to empower the performance.

  • Rock/Pop Opera – Rock/Pop operas are performances that uses the genre of loud music

that’s enjoyed by a lot of people this generation.

MUSICAL THEATER PART TWO

WICKED

  • The Defying Gravity part of the Wicked musical is all about Elphaba realizing that she found power through her outsider status, she just wanted to fit in at the first place but the society she’s in was so filled with judgement that they display prejudice towards her for her appearance.

  • Elphaba and Galinda

  • Idina Menzel and Kristin Chinoweth

  • Defying Gravity, No one Mourns the Wicked, The Wizard and I

  • The song I liked the most is the Defying Gravity that played during the finale of the musical. This became my favorite because of the music and lyrics itself. The meaning behind the song made me admire it so much as she found her strength by using her weaknesses.

MUSIC GENRES

1, A genre you like and why?

  • Ballad
  • Classic
  • Lofi

I like these genres of music because I am more of a relaxed person when listening to music.

2. Explore a new genre

I would like to explore pop music because I want to try listen to something new with a more energized vibe so I can also have the energy to do things.

3. A genre you don’t like

Personally I don’t like rock music because it makes my ears hurt and I don’t really like loud music because it always rattles me every time I listen to it.
